INFOS & NEIGHBORHOOD

THE LAKES

In our municipality of Härjedalen, there are over 17,000 large and small lakes and over 2800 km of flowing waters. Thus, the right body of water is quickly available for every angler, whether you’re a spin fisherman, trolling fisherman, fly fisherman, or float fisherman.

We recommend Smedjemorsjön, Orrmosjön, and Härjeåsjön as well as the surrounding rivers. Smedjemorsjön is known as a big fish area and contains pike larger than 1.2m. But perch fishing is also popular here. Both Smedjemorsjön and Orrmosjön and Herrsjön have places where boats can be launched. There is also the possibility to set up a tent near the water at all lakes. This is allowed thanks to the Swedish Right of Public Access. To fish, you need a fishing permit, which can be purchased through us. Because our area is quite sparsely populated, you won’t find much activity on the lakes here. Enjoy the silence of nature, interrupted only by the hum of your boat motor and the whir of your reels.

EVERYONE’S RIGHT

Under the Swedish Right of Public Access (Allemannsrätt), everyone is allowed to set up a tent for two nights. After that, you must relocate your camp, but it can also be rebuilt in the immediate vicinity. Since preserving the pristine nature is very important to us, we kindly ask you to take special care of this, to take your belongings with you, and to leave the place as you found it. We are happy to provide you with a portable camping toilet and garbage bags. If you prefer not to camp but desire the comfort of a house, you are welcome to book a room or the entire house with us.

FISHING PERMITS

Fishing permits can be purchased on a daily, weekly, or seasonal basis. If you have decided on the duration of your trip before arrival, we can provide you with the corresponding fishing permits in advance. The minimum sizes for the removal of fish are 35cm for grayling, 25cm for trout and char. Pike may be removed between 40cm and 80cm, and perch up to a maximum of 40cm to conserve the local stock. Three fish per day and fishing permit may be removed, with a fishing ban for grayling from April 15th to May 31st and for trout from September 1st to October 30th. Children and adolescents under 16 years of age do not require a fishing permit. Unlike in Germany, you do not need a fishing license in Sweden. Each angler may use up to 2 rods simultaneously.
